IT STRATEGY

IT strategy for your small business prioritise changes and plan costs

Our IT consultancy Hampshire service gives you senior IT advice without hiring a full-time IT director. We review your systems and business goals, then identify which changes to prioritise and what to budget.

Buying IT one problem at a time makes spending harder to control. You can lose track of your equipment, running costs and what happens if something fails.

You get a written roadmap with a cost, timescale and business reason for each project. You decide what goes ahead and which changes can wait.

  • Advice for firms with no in-house IT, and a second opinion for internal teams
  • Plans built around Microsoft 365, Fortinet and Dell, which we work with every day

WHAT WE COVER

IT consulting services choose the help you need

Choose an audit, IT strategy or help delivering a project. Start with one priority or build a rolling plan.

IT strategy and roadmaps

We turn your business plan into a one to three year IT roadmap. It lists each project, its rough cost and a sensible order. We revisit it with you as priorities shift.

IT audits and health checks

We review your devices, network, licences, backups, security settings and supplier contracts. You get a plain-English report ranking each risk by urgency, showing where you overspend as well as where you are exposed.

Vendor and software selection

Choosing a CRM, accounts package or line-of-business system is easy to get wrong. We write your requirements, shortlist suppliers, sit in on demos and check contract terms, so you choose on evidence.

IT project management

We run projects from scoping to sign-off, with one plan and one point of contact. We manage suppliers, book downtime outside your busy periods and keep the budget visible throughout.

Support for in-house IT

If you already employ IT staff, we add capacity and specialist knowledge for big projects. Your team keeps day-to-day control, and we document everything we build before handing it over.

Security and compliance planning

We hold Cyber Essentials ourselves and build its controls into every plan. Firewalls, patching, user access and malware protection get designed in from the start, which makes your own certification simpler.

COMMON PROJECTS

Plan and deliver your IT projects with agreed costs and timescales

Cloud migration to Microsoft 365

Many firms still keep shared files on an ageing server in a cupboard. We move that data into SharePoint and OneDrive, then retire the server, so staff can reach files securely from anywhere.

  • Folder and permissions mapping before anything moves
  • Data cleanup so you stop paying to store duplicates

Office moves and new fit-outs

Office moves often run late because of IT. We get involved early, ideally before you sign the lease, and plan connectivity, cabling, WiFi and phones so your team can work from day one.

  • Connectivity checks at the new address
  • Cabling, comms cabinet and WiFi layout

Hardware refresh planning

Replacing every laptop in one year hurts cash flow. We build an asset register with the age and warranty of each device. Then we spread renewals into a predictable annual budget.

  • Lease or buy comparison for each refresh
  • Standard device specs that suit each role

Microsoft Copilot readiness

Copilot can only show a user data they already have permission to see, and many small firms have overshared folders. We review permissions, tidy SharePoint and apply sensitivity labels before a small trial.

  • Permissions and oversharing review
  • Licence check against Microsoft prerequisites

WINDOWS 11

Still using Windows 10? budget for your next steps

Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. These PCs no longer receive free security fixes. Without extended updates, they face new security risks and can put Cyber Essentials certification at risk.

Businesses can buy Extended Security Updates for up to three years, but Microsoft doubles the price each year. These updates delay the move, so you still need a migration plan.

We check each device against Windows 11 requirements and recommend whether to upgrade, replace or retire it. You get a costed timetable to keep your business running during the switch.

  • Compatibility check covering hardware, apps and peripherals
  • In-place upgrades where devices qualify

Frequently asked questions

IT Consulting: your questions answered

What does IT consultancy include for a small business?

IT consultancy includes a review of your technology, advice on risks and a plan for changes. Your small business IT strategy sets priorities, hardware budgets and project timescales. Projects can include cloud migration, office moves and system upgrades.

How much do IT consulting services cost?

The cost of IT consulting services depends on your business size and the agreed scope. We offer a free IT review to discuss your needs. Any further work has a written, costed plan that you can approve in full, in part or decline.

What is included in an IT audit?

An IT audit reviews your devices, network, firewall, Microsoft 365, licences, user access, backups and supplier contracts. We assess your backup and continuity arrangements as part of that review. Your report ranks findings by risk and gives suggested fixes with estimated costs.

Can our business still use Windows 10?

Yes, Windows 10 PCs still work, but free security updates ended on 14 October 2025. Without extended updates, unsupported systems increase security risks and can affect Cyber Essentials certification. Businesses can buy Extended Security Updates for up to three years, with the price doubling each year. We help you plan upgrades, replacements and retirement.

How do you move our file server to SharePoint?

We move your files in stages after reviewing folders, permissions and how your staff work. We remove duplicates and old files, then design your SharePoint and Teams structure. Our Microsoft 365 support helps with the setup. We agree migration times with you and retire the server after checking the migrated files and permissions.

Is our business ready for Microsoft Copilot?

Your readiness depends on your Microsoft 365 plan, Copilot licences, staff accounts and data permissions. You need an eligible plan and Microsoft Entra ID accounts for staff. Copilot can surface information a user already has permission to access. We review sharing settings and tidy SharePoint before a pilot.

Can we use your IT consulting services without a managed IT plan?

Yes, you can book a one-off project or audit without a monthly managed IT plan. You can start with a health check to identify priorities. If you have in-house IT staff, our co-managed IT plan provides additional support for your team.

Do you provide IT consultancy across Hampshire?

Yes, our Whiteley office provides IT consultancy across Hampshire, including Basingstoke, Winchester, Southampton, Fareham and Portsmouth. We also work with businesses in Farnham and Camberley. Much of the planning happens remotely, with on-site visits when your project needs them.
